adoption process
We have an adoption application that must be completed by anyone wanting to adopt. After receipt of the completed application, we contact references as well as the veterinarian listed on the application to verify the support of family and friends for the applicant adopting a rescued Dachshund. We will then contact the applicant to schedule a home visit - preferably with the dog.
In the visit we look for such things as a danger free home for the dog, secure fences and we observe the interaction between the dog with adults, children and other pets in the home. We will want to see where the dog will eat, sleep and play as well as discuss any issues with the applicant. When everything is approved, the adoption can take place with a binding contract signed by the adopter and our representative. The adoption fee is paid at the time of the contract signing and the adoption is official!
The adopter has a two week “trial period” during which time if the adoption is not working out for any reason, we will refund the adoption fee and will assume custody of the dog back into the rescue group.
We would love to keep in touch with all of our adopters and have you visit us at events - we have a lot invested in these Doxies and we love to see them happy!

seniors
Please do not overlook the senior dog when considering adoption. We receive older dogs for a variety of reasons. If you are looking for a dog who does not require the energy that a puppy or young dog demands, who is more than likely housetrained and is also happy to adjust to a calmer lifestyle, the senior dog is for you.
Consider adopting a senior dog who needs you and will love you for life.
